12 Could Have Been 8?

That’s right, Peter Capaldi turned down an audition for the 8th Doctor!  From Doctor Who TV:

In a parallel universe Peter Capaldi is the 8th Doctor. The man himself has revealed that he had the opportunity to audition for the role, but turned it down.

Speaking at the Series 8 DVD launch event: “I never begged to be in Doctor Who. I even turned down the opportunity to audition for the role of Doctor Who in the one that Paul McGann did.”

And the reason?: “I knew I wouldn’t get it. I just didn’t want to have the disappointment, and go through all the palaver of jumping through hoops for something that I would never get…. I knew it was an American pilot thing, and I knew they would go for somebody who was well known, which Paul was.”

He added: “I loved the show so much that I didn’t want to have anything to do with it unless it was, unless it was gonna be me!”

This *really* needs to be updated with the 12th Doctor!

As an FYI, my review will be late for the finale as I’ll be away…

Audio Book: The Scapegoat

I’ve been working my way through the Paul McGann audio books… and writing about them…  It’s been suggested I start sharing them, and I think I may do that.  They may not be that interesting, but in case you’re thinking of joining the party this will give you some idea of what you’re looking for.

If you know me,  you know I’ve been at this a lot recently.  I’ll be honest here.  Even though I do slam some of the audio books, I now feel like we were cheated out of McGann on TV.  I wasn’t a huge fan of the movie so although I liked him I wasn’t that attached to him.  But now?  Oh yes, I completely love him now!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This entire thing reminded me of something, but I can’t put my finger on it. It was a bit darker than we’ve seen in a while, and I really enjoyed that. It’s a nice theater mystery that’s not what it seems.

When Lucie woke up in the dressing room she reminded me a lot of Rose… Wait, that’s it! The theater in Penny Dreadful – that’s what I was picturing in my mind while listening to this.

Big Finish Audio Books

I’ve just started listening to the audio books from Big Finish.  For the last couple of days, I’ve been listening to Paul McGann as the Doctor.  Now for those of you who aren’t familiar with the Big Finish audio books, they’re not really books in the sense that someone is reading you a story.  They’re actually productions, and are very much like an episode of the TV series, but without the video.  The production quality is high, and the “books” are basically a long episode.

I feel like we’ve been cheated.  We had one movie with the 8th Doctor, and it could have been much better.  With the audio books I can actually picture the Doctor in his 8th incarnation, and listening to him is just joyful.  He makes a very good Doctor, and I’m now wishing we’d had more time with him in the series.

My point?  Oh yes, my point.  My point is that I suggest you check out the audio books if you haven’t investigated them before.  I’ve been reviewing them on Goodreads.  If you’re wondering if a book is worth your time I’d suggest checking the rating on the site.  You can also leave a review for the next person!
